What a cute, unique little building... maybe the porch is for when you come out light-headed you can sit down & re-think the snow/icy lake part of the process, lol!!! :)
this is a very cute sauna - I can remember the guys at Bible School renting a hot tub in the middle of winter and then finding there nearest snowbank. I know a bunch of girls did it too - but I prefer to stay wamer and the thought of jumping into a snowbank in my swimsuit didn't sound all that appealing.
You forgot to add a couple of crucial ingredients to the recipe for a healthy sauna. First, some good friends, and second, a couple of cocktails! (And in case folks don't know, I learned last year it's pronounced "sow-na" not "saw-na".) Doggone Finns...and I married one!
This is a Barrel Sauna. It is about the size of a very small bathroom. I debate the need for round, the need for a porch, and even the need for a sauna. If I were Finnish I would love it. Or maybe a bigger version of it. Do you know how on a cold night you can take a very hot bath and climb into bed and the cold sheets don't feel cold at all? Well, you take a sauna in the winter and then roll in the snow it doesn't feel cold either. The Fins believe it is a cleansing tool, it relaxes, de-stresses, and detoxifies. The heat opens the pores to empty them of gunk (my word not theirs) and the snow (or very cold lake) closes them. I tried it once, I got so bored in the sauna part I never got to the snow part. But it is a cute one.
