The day my son left for boot camp. The journaling says:He's just a recruit A boy so young
when most at his age
are just looking for fun.

He chose to grow up
become an honororable man
he said mom and dad
please try to understand.

This is something
that I know is right
because freedom isn't free
and someone must fight.

left early that morning
said his good bye
his mother so brave
as she tried not to cry.

He's been our little boy
for the past 18 years
we have always been there
to fix the bumps, bruises, and tears.

I can still see him sleeping
all curled up in a ball
somtime I forget
he answered Americas call.

Now he is gone
and so far from home
it's hard to imagine
him all alone.

But then we relax
when we think of the others
all 62 recruits
his new band of brothers.

Yes he has grown
the changes extreme
for now our little boy
is one of the few, the proud
A UNITED STATES MARINE.

Now our thoughts and fears
are sometimes hard to explain
but our overwhelming pride
is almost impossible to contain.

After all of his training
he starts his first tour
tells his mom "sleep peacefully"
for all is secure.

Ask any Marine
the who,what, or why
and they all answer the same
with a harty "SEMPER FI".

If you ever wonder
where your freedom comes from
it comes from fathers and brothers
AND YES, FROM MY SON.
