Journaling: Though it's not pictured, I think the remote control was your favorite toy during these months of your first summer. Second to that would probably be your little red car or "beep, beep" as we called it. You loved being pushed outside in the car, but really enjoyed climbing in it and pushing it around the house, too. You were definitely outgrowing your toys, or maybe simply you found banging spoons against a pan a lot more enjoyable. We didn’t want to buy you any toys knowing that your birthday was around the corner, but daddy and I went out sometime in July and bought you a fire truck with mega blocks in it. Though you didn’t know how to build anything, you enjoyed taking the blocks out and lining them up. You liked to watch daddy stack the blocks on the side of the fire engine, too. My keys were also more interesting than anything else you owned. You would hang out around the chest/bench throwing the keys on to it, then dropping them on the floor. When you discovered the hole on the sides, you began to slide the keys through them. This was an activity that occurred soon after you woke and reoccurred throughout the day. This was one of your many "work stations". The DVD drawer would probably ring in as your second “work station.” I can’t believe we let you, buy you would rummage through all of the movies and throw them out of the drawer. Sometimes you would try to put them back, stacking them higher than the drawer could close. We finally put an end to this in the fall, when our DVD’s began skipping all too frequently. You loved playing with the magnets on the fridge and throwing the ball around the kitchen. The 'pooh' ball accompanied us outside, too. And the outside - the whole world was something new for you to discover. Every blade of grass, stone, stick, grain of dirt, and crabapple was something for you to play with and examine. Those summer days…. James, I enjoy watching you play and love playing with you even more!
