I LOVE your LO!!! I had a similar situation! I wasn't diagnosed until I was 17 & in college. I know it was my ability to cope that kept my mom from having my evaluated for ADD, so even though I was in some ways a typical ADD kid, I would never blame my mother or think she failed me. I love her for sticking with me when I was diagnosed & had to start on meds! It seems like you are doing the same & that is proof that you are an amazing mother!
Wow powerful layout. and touching as a mothers forgiveness you seek too. I'm very happy to hear that she is managing on meds. We should all be thank for that there are meds out there to help with so many things! I wish your daughter nothing but the best as she travels through live.
Very original, interesting layout. Love how you took what she told you and came up with embellishments. Really like how you did the journalling, too. I know meds aren't the answer for everyone but they made all the difference in the world for my 9 year old! Good luck to your daughter!
this is a wonderful page! and a topic i had not previously considered scrapping. My 6 year old is beginning his medicinal treatment on sunday. what a beautiful sentiment!
Love the journaling! You are a great mom! But you're only human.. you can't always do it all, including diagnosing your own child! Sometimes, our close friends are better observers because we are so wrapped up with our kids' lives!
Love the LO, I was diagnosed with ADD as an adult too, and everyone wondered how did you get through school without being diagnosed...well, I had some really good coping skills! I love the way you represented the 8 conversations with herself with the people and "telephone" lines!
So glad for you and your daughter. Love your design and she is very pretty! If she's managed to get started in college then you have been a great mother and given her the support she needs!
That journaling made me tear up. My son was just recently diagnosed as well. It took him fighting in school and 6 days of hospitalization for him to get his diagnosis. But the meds work great. I know what you are feeling as far as the feeling of failing your child. Mine isn't 20, but he's 10. Most kids are diagnosed by the time they are 5. God Bless. You are a great mom!
For the Use Your Supplies Week #4: Journaling challenge. Also posting as a late share for last month's "pink" entry on Very Laid Back. (EDIT: Just realized this can also count for the VLB Week #1 Challenge: Die Cuts. So I'm using it for that rather than the "pink" category.) :)
My DD was recently diagnosed with ADD at the age of 20. She has, for years, had trouble focusing on schoolwork or sticking to a task. But she developed some great coping skills that got her through until she went from a part-time to a full-time college student this fall. Then it became a problem. A conversation with a nurse friend of mine (who also knows DD) who has foster kids with ADD made the pieces all fall into place. We got an official diagnosis, and DD is now on meds that are working miracles for her.
The journaling reads: If there is one thing in my life that I feel like I've done well, it's being a mom. Yet this is the one time when I feel I failed you because I didn't pursue this sooner. I didn't even begin to understand until you described it as having 8 conversations with yourself. I hope now we can find you some peace. I'm sorry.
Letters cut with the Slice (Noteworthy), as are the girl figures (Just Chillin' Teen). The eight figures represent the eight conversations she mentioned, with the lines (thread) going between them like telephone lines. The photo is matted on black cs. Border is a sunburst punch I got early on in my scrapbooking (don't remember where) and the corners have a bit of Stickles (cotton candy) added.
