The Silent Night Memorial Chapel at Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland in Frankenmuth, MI
Journaling says: The Silent Night Memorial Chapel is located in Frankenmuth, MI at Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland. Wally Bronner had the idea to recreate the chapel after visiting the original in Oberndorf, Austria in 1976. The Bronner family was given permission by the city government and Visitors Bureau of Oberndorf to recreate the chapel. The Chapel was erected in 1992. Around the chapel are plaques with the words to “Silent Night” in over 300 languages. Inside of the chapel is a replica of Oberndorf’s altar cloth, a carved crucifix from 1818, a Biblical account of the Christmas story, information on the hymn and composers and a reproduction of the original score. There is also information about the original chapel. On Christmas Eve in 1818 Silent night was first sung at St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf. Pastor Joseph Mohr wrote the words and Franz Xaver Gruber composed the music.
