Memories of my first year of high school. My school colors were blue and gold. The title is one of my school's mottos. :)

Journaling says:
In the fall of 1995 I was about to enter high school! It was an equally scary and exciting time. I was really nervous about going to a larger school with a lot more students, but it wasn't as bad as when I first went to junior high. One of the most exciting parts of going to high school was that my high school has an open campus lunch, which meant that I could leave to get lunch from somewhere else. And since Pat was an afternoon co-op student he could drive and I wouldn't have to worry about walking. We went out for lunch a few times, which was a nice change from cafeteria food. I was really looking forward to my classes. There was the added pressure that my grades and how I did in school would have an effect on where I would go to college. As a freshman I had taken several honors and advanced classes so I thought I knew how hard it was going to be. The first semester of high school was tough. I enjoyed most of my classes, but there was one class that I really did not enjoy and that was geometry. I've never been very good with spatial reasoning so that was extremely challenging for me. The other class that I struggled with at first was Western Literature. I've always excelled in English, but my teacher for Western Literature was tough. I was devastated when I got a C on a research paper. All my life I've been told by my teachers that I was an excellent writer so to get a C was a real blow to me. I really didn't understand it at first, but when I reread my paper I could see that it wasn't very good. My teacher knew I was capable of doing better and pushed me to become a better writer. I can't recall ever working harder to get an A in a class, but I was so proud when I finally achieved that goal. That first A in Western Literature meant more than all of the other A's I had ever received because of all the hard work. I am so thankful for my teacher pushing me and challenging me. My favorite class that first year in high school was World History. My teacher was a former Marine who was really passionate about history, though most of his lectures all related back to World War I and the treaty of Versailles. Spanish was an interesting class, though I think my teacher was a bit loco! Geoscience was kind of boring, but it was better than biology! One of the most laidback and easy classes was computer applications. My teacher was very old and near retirement and really didn't care what we did. I normally finished my assignment early then worked on other homework or study for another class. Overall though the first year in high school wasn't bad. There were some challenges with certain classes, but I worked hard and persevered.
