This is one of many lo's I will make for my dh's Iraq book. Sorry for the bad scan. The 7 Gypsies clip really made the scan lumpy.

Journaling:
Christmas 2005 will be one I won’t forget for quite some time, if ever. You were in Balad, Iraq serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. When you first told me you were going, I didn’t really want to believe you. In fact, I tried my best to have everything stay status quo up until the moment you were packing your bags. It was at that time, I realized that you really were going and that I would need to adjust the best I could. I had a heavy heart for the longest time. In 14 years, this was the first time we have been apart this long, not to mention being away from each other on Christmas. I sent you your package on December 15 in hopes it would be there on Christmas Eve. Packages were taking about 17 mailing days at that time so I really wasn’t sure when it would get there. To my surprise, on December 23rd I received this picture of you in your Santa hat, the stocking I made you, and your packages under that mini tree in the break room. Whether here or there, it wouldn’t be Christmas without a Santa hat, would it? You really are my Santa baby!

You are home how and my heart is back to normal. I hope I do not have to endure that heaviness again for a long while. I am so proud of you for serving your country and helping me stay free. I love you.
