Hidden Journaling: (From David's Point Of View)
Halloween 2008: Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat! At least give me a pumpkin to carve because it's Halloween! This Halloween tradition got a little extra flair this year because one of my birthday presents just happened to be a Pittsburgh Steelers pumpkin carving kit! Now choosing the right pumpkin is vitally important. The size and shape of the pumpkin are directly connected to what kind of carving you can do, so we searched thru many a pumpkin patch before we selected ours. As you can see by the smiles on our faces what came next was really fun…cleaning out the pumpkins! All the gooey seeds and pulp oozing thru your fingers…does it get any better? Then comes the tricky part. Now this kit came with instructions, a cutter and sketches to trace onto the pumpkin, but my degree is in Business Management, NOT pumpkin carving, so this is still a risky endeavor. With patience, concentration and a steady hand I finally succeeded in producing a rather good image of the Steelers logo onto the pumpkin (even if the last “E” looks more like a “U”). I even used my now advanced sculpting talents to put some finishing touches on Andrea's Steelers helmet pumpkin. When we put them on our front porch and lit the candles inside, the carvings were clearly seen almost from the road! Now I know pumpkin carvings are supposed to be scary and all, and Steelers logos aren't that intimidating, but they sure did the job for our porch…not one Chiefs fan came close to our front door!
