We thought it would be cool to take the kids to Vikings Training Camp in Mankato, MN.
I was overjoyed with the fact that earlier in the spring we had signed Brad Johnson (my favorite NFL player) to a contract as a back-up quarterback. So, I was just thrilled to have him back on the team I cheer for and at the chance to hopefully see him out on the field practicing! Trent was pretty excited just to see all football players and to get a chance to see them throw the football and maybe see “some kicks” (as he put it). However, because of our totally incompetent coach, Mike Tice, our son didn’t get the chance. First, Tice had the team stretch (not scrimmage, not practice any kicks) on a field two away from where the stands were and everything was going on. Second, according to the schedule for the day, a practice & scrimmage was to last an hour and 15 minutes. The team was on the field for a total of 12 minutes and then Tice sent them inside. It was so disappointing. At least they still had some activities for the kids to enjoy like the helmet shaped jumping balloon and kids sized field kick. Oh well, as we Vikings fans like to say, “There is always next year” (and hopefully we will have a new coach too!!)
