My helper from Philippines who is our domestic angel celebrating her first Chinese Lunar New Year. Holding a pair of mandarin oranges symbolising "gold" - which is prosperity for the New Year. Blooming cherry blossoms are a must have decoration for the home - bringing luck, good health and success. The chinese character on the left means "SPRING' - celebrating the spring festival or Lunar Chinese New Year. The two chinese characters on the left means everything will be plentiful and good.Chinese Lunar New Year is a time for feasting and renewing family ties. Children are the happiest - receiving "ang pows" or red packets with money inside. This is also a time where everything is bright and cheery - houses are decorated with red or gold ornaments and red clothings are in favor as it will bring good luck and wealth. For this year the Chinese Lunar New Year will be celebrated on 14 Feb for a period of 15 days.
