This page is in reference to ..... you guessed it - the longhorn!! :) Every year, we go to a small West Texas town for a musical that is about cowboys and settling the west. I always take pics of the longhorn that they bring in from the state herd and I thought I would pay homage to these beautiful animals.
Journaling reads: What image most personifies Texas? The longhorn has a prominent place throughout our state's history. There have been plays, poems, and books written about this beautiful animal and the lifestyle that must be endured to claim a slice of Texas.
From cowboys and indians, cattle drives, boots, "ten gallon" hats, chaps, ranching, and school mascots, the longhorn image is one of the most recognized symbols of Texas and life in the West!
Most importantly, this animal is the best representation of the spirit of Texas. It has an adaptability and toughness that epitomizes the strength of character of Texans. Many see that as arrogance, but it really is a pride in what we have endured and standing tall in the face of adversity.

Other states were carved or born, Texas grew from hide and horn...high above the hum and stir, jingle, bridle-rein and spur...fandangle.
