As you can see, this is not my normal kind of layout. No cute smiles, no bling, no awe-inspiring techniques. Just a single flower for this little girl whose face tugged at my heartstrings all week. As I read the paper Monday night, I came across this photo published by Associated Press and taken by Brennan Linsley. The moment I saw it, I knew I had to scrap it. I hope that I am not crossing any legal boundaries since I have given credit to the publisher and photographer. However, my apologies to the parents. I'm certain they would not want their daughter in my blog headlines .. or the newspaper or internet news for that matter.

Frankly, they would never want their precious child to behold what she does each day. The caption on this reads: "An Afghan girl watches as a soldier searches an area recently used as a firing position by Taliban militants. He was taking part in a U.S.-Afghan patrol in Kunar province Sunday." Fortunately, my children never saw these kinds of sights. Only those in my family who served in the military and fought in various wars. I'm so very proud of them. And thankful that their scarifices meant a relatively uninterrupted life for myself and my daughters. I say relatively as my first husband was killed in Vietnam.

I hope you will join me in praying for these children of war. Hopefully, these children can find the beauty in their little red dresses, in the necklaces they wear and the games they surely play. Thanks for letting me share what's on my heart this week. I mean no offense to anyone - especially those who are victims of war. Rather, I wish to honor you.
