My husband made the island from 4 old cabinets he got from a commercial remodel a few years ago. they are mounted on plywood, and the whole thing is on wheels so it can be moved. It was originally designed to be used mostly for sewing/quilting, so is at countertop height. I have an "office chair" that can be raised to fit at the machine, and the whole unit can be pushed up to the nearby L counter top for an even larger area. Both sewing/quilting and scrapbooing stuff stored on the shelves behind, but I may have to pack away some of the sewing things, as I very rarely sew now that I have caught the scrapbooking bug! The vinly words on the end of the island say "scrapbooking is cheaper than therapy". I'm not convinced!
