Hidden Journaling: (Written By David, Of Course)
A birthday is something that should be celebrated wherever you are, but there are some places that make a birthday an even more special occasion. My 37th birthday was almost an aligning of the planets kind of event. The “Family Planet” had already been put in place by our move back to Ohio. This was going to be my first birthday in twelve years that I'd actually be spending with my family instead of being almost 900 miles away. My family has always been one of love, support and closeness, but being gone so far and for so long made me forget how much stronger and deeper that family bond can be when you are back home. Next we got the “Surprise Planet” in it's correct orbit. The town I grew up in and where my family still lives is called Hartville, Ohio. It was originally founded by the Amish and the one grand Amish fixture left in the town is the good old Hartville Kitchen. This Wal-Mart Super center sized building is the home of not only this amazing restaurant and bakery, but also produces salad dressing, has an indoor/outdoor flea market and of course your classic Amish craft store. My surprise was not just in the family dinner but that my 91 years young grandmother came out as well! Of course the food was incredible (Amish cooking is big flavor and bigger helpings) but seeing my family all together, listening to them talk and laugh, being a part of something bigger than me…that was the real joy in the evening. Lastly, the “Present Planet” made it's way into the line, bringing with it a bounty of jeans, shoes, Ohio State shirts, a Yahtzee game and some cold hard cash. This planet, though rich in gifts, was on the icing on my cake…white icing on a chocolate cake HOLD the 37 candles please. J My birthday was the great day it turned out to be because my home is once again where my Hartville is.
