This is a Christmas tree I put up at the 2009 Festival of Trees at the Bristol Public Library in honor of my husband who was diagnosed with Stage IV prostate cancer in April 2008. Area residents and library patrons were invited to place a ribbon on the tree in honor of someone they know who has survived cancer. There are 17 types of cancer and 17 different color ribbons which I cut out using the Sizix Scrap Pink large ribbon die so each survivor's ribbon color matched the type of cancer they battled and won. Their name was written on the ribbon across from a sticker which simply stated "I survived...". By the end of the three-week long festival there were several hundred ribbons on the tree and I received many phone calls and emails thanking me for giving hope to those battling this dreadful disease. I plan on doing the tree as long as I can.
