Thought provoking indeed and when she's past this stage in her life and is a mother herself she will look back on this and be grateful her mom scrapped it. She'll know how you felt when she's in he same boat with her 13 yr old and it will bring her comfort i'm sure. My sweet niece just turned 13 and she changed in so many ways i never imagined she could. I have two daughters and even though they're little right now I'm already worried about getting to the teen stage after seeing how my nieces has changed so quickly. I commend you.
I swear something invades there body when they hit there teen years. I remember looking at my girls and thinking who are you and who took my child. LOL. But as they get older it gets so much better, and I did not know it was posible to love them so much more. You did such a wonderful job on this layout. You captured the teens years on paper. How awesome is that......
My daughter is 15 now and yes 13 was QUITE a SHOCK to my system. The little girl is gone and you don't know who that person is living inside her body! Love your layout! Great both in the art of it and the sentiment!
My goodness...this is not only a beautiful layout, but your journaling is INSPIRED! What an amazing gift you have to capture the angst that you, the mom (not the teen) has in seeing the changes taking place in your little girl. Just wonderful!
Oh how we who have gone through those teenage years do sympathise. You can be reassured that you will survive and she will be the beautiful person you know - but better. All that you have put in up to now will bear fruit, and true beauty inside and out will result. Its a fun bit of gothic in this lo!
Love the title and the LO is beautiful. Your dd is likely just trying to define who she is and needs a little space to find herself. Didn't we all? Hang in there, mom.
heheee, it's normal for her to be acting like that, don't worry! my mom says i went through it, i think my sister is STILL in her rebellious stage and shes 21! your dd is beautiful and so is your lo! love the high heel with butterflies!
Awesome page, Kelly! And the message is one we have all lived. I have three girls....all grown now....and we ALL survived those dreaded teens years. Love the shoe BTW :D
WOW!!!!! My daughter just turned 13 this month...I am going thru these same emotions...I am actually sitting in tears as I write this....how will we get thru these next few years as our little girls transform right before our eyes into their own person...not necessarily the person we thought they'd be...but still beautiful inside and out....thanks for sharing this LO!! Jennifer
Very beautiful and thought provoking LO! And your journaling so accurately describes that transition from little girl to teenager! The pp is perfect for this photo and theme! Hope this was good scrap therapy for you, I imagine this will be a LO & time you and your dd will look back on fondly in the future =-)
Oh Gosh, I am going through similar stuff with my son but he is only just 10....hate to think what 13 and beyond is going to be like. Love your title and the lo!! As long as she knows you love her, what else can you do??
D*I*T*T*O ... I am happy to see you archive these moments ... because life is full of good and things that make us say ... hummm! This lo hit me right in the heart! Well done.
this is so pretty i luv the colors this los great n yea i feel you with the journaling i did kindof the same thing shes just comming into her own shes becoming herself n exploring the options seems like your a great caring luving mother and youll do just great with her!! luv this lo! scrap therapy it helps!! this is going into my favs!
ah yes, heart attack photo shoots..I remember those! And the photoediting software now! they don't even have to be wearing makeup when they take the photo, it adds it in!!! It is a little heart wrenching though, when you realize they are changing faster than you can keep up with..but rest assured, they will return to the values they were brought up with!! Parenting philosophy aside, it is a GORGEOUS layout!! Was the stiletto on the pp or did you cut it out with a cricut or..? So Cool! I bet your daughter liked it!!
How well I remember that age-sometimes hard to live thru! Love the color combo and the title says it all! Great embellies-the spider off the 13-perfect addition to the journaling-tell her I love the photo!! jen
Are you kidding me!? Why would this be disturbing?? It's great! It's beautiful! It catches a significant moment in her teenage yrs, when she looks back on it, she will LOVE it. Wonderful journaling, love evrything u wrote!
I love this !!!!!!!13 is a lucky number for Italians!!!! My wedding was Feb 13, it has been 22 years !!! But I love the paper the photo all os this :):):) Deb
WOW!!!! Goegeous lo!! I do the same thing.. well, I guess not.. I don't have a daughter but I notice that I'm getting WAY different!! Whoa, I LOVE make-up, I wear black like everyday, I don't do facebook, but I am 13!! 3 out of 4.. I'm only a month older then your dd!! This is SUCH a GORGEOUS lo!! into favs!
Great LO! My youngest daughter is 13 and I know what you're going through. My oldest is 17 so I've been here before and while I could tell you that it gets better, it won't for a while. lol. The LO is quite beautiful and the photo is striking!
Wow I love this!!!! love the journaling and your description, I am mom of a teenager and I understand you so well!! time flies my friend and they grow too fast!! I am sure she will love to buy at Hot Topic!!! The first time I went to that store I felt like a 90 years old lady! lol this lo is awesome!!
Wow - what an amazing piece of art. A great example of the old saying: "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade." The scrapbooker's saying would be: "If you are handed a photo that stirs your emotions, scrap it." You have done a wonderful job of capturing your emotions - nothing wrong with that.
I totally know what you mean.. Mine is about to turn 12 next month and I could totally do a LO like this.. It is crazy how fast they grow.. Love your journaling
What a great LO! I am sure to know one day what it's like to have a teenager in the house, but for now I am happy to say thank goodness he's only 2!! lol - You have done a great job with this LO! I love that flocked pp but I have never known what to do with mine!! Thanks for sharing your story - and hopefully that time will only make things better for you with your daughter! :)
Awesome LO! Love the journaling. I can`t imagine my kids as a teenagers! ... I work with teenagers every day and I agree, they are like aliens sometimes!!
beautiful lo! I soooooo understand where you are coming from! I have one dd who turns 21 tomorrow and roxy is 17....heartache i tell you! You need anyone to chat with...give me a pm....
great to scrap these moments tho....so you can show them later...:)
Awesome page. Love the journaling. Something for ya'll to look back on. Love the title - nothing wrong with it at all. All teen moms can relate. My daughter never really got into that phase which I am so thankful. Great layout.
So cool! So sorry you are having to deal with "that other stranger". It is so sad when they change so drastically. Im not looking forward to my DD turning 13. Shes in 6th grade and just turned 11 but she follows the styles as much as she can squeeze out of me. Theres a school nearby that is better and requires uniforms. I frequently talk about it when she whines about wanting different clothes. I let her pick them out, and the school she's in has a really strict dress code for a school that allows street clothes-uniforms have been discussed often, especially when they complain about the dress code. The gothic style is not allowed because they can't wear 3 of anything in the same color-including shoes and socks. So if they wear black shoes and socks, they can't wear any more black and all of the other gothic wear is not allowed on school grounds at all. Its a district rule that moms like me really love.
13 is tough! My daughter is 14 now and things are better. She never went through the black phase, but the changes are overwhelming! You did a fabulous job on this layout documenting this time in both your lives.
My daughter was 13 not to long ago....I feel your sentiments... Hot Topic was the only store she would shop in...Black, black, and more black...She will be 19 soon and when we look at pics from that "era", she always says the same thing..."What on earth was I thinking"...I did a couple of LO's on both my kids regarding this issue...they get over it...In the meantime keep creating these LO's!! I just love this one...It is just awesome!!!
Oh my, This is a awesome page, I don't have any girls just 5 boys.
But I can only imagine I'm sure my mama thought the same thing about me many moons ago. LOL great page!!!!
This is FANTASTIC!!! (Believe me, I know what you are going through - my daughter is 15!!!!! LOL!!! She NEVER wanted to shop before she was a teenager, either, but could live at the mall now.) I so love your layout - it's going right into my favs!!! Hey, at least they don't have big hair! LOL!!
Kelly....Love the LO!!! This is so much fun....and I DO UNDERSTAND! My DD is 25 now, and we all lived through it, somehow! I have a feeling that you are the kind of MOM who will meet each and every challenge with a positive attitude....SMILE
Disturbing title?? NOPE! All mothers of teens TOTALLY GET IT!!!! And for you, it is just starting! LOL! MY dd is 17+, so she is at least half way through...only 2 more 'teen' years~ I especially like the journaling and the number 13 in the corner. :)
There isn't anything wrong with your title, it's perfect! I think anyone that has parented through the teen years will totally understand! Your page is awesome and I LOVE it!
Love the color.. so vibrant and beautiful with the deep contrast of black. Only thing I can say is 13 will seem like its hanging around a long time, even if the actually number has moved on. cause 14, 15, 16 and and are just as rough!! been there done that!
I'm not superstitious, but I'm starting to believe that 13 is an unlucky number for me. It's my oldest daughter's age, you see. She turned 13 in January. I wasn't quite ready for the changes that have come along with it...changes in attitude, interests and even personality. For goodness sake, she's always HATED shopping...now she would like to live at the mall. When she came home this weekend from a sleepover at a friend's and showed me this photo they took and altered with Mac iphoto, I was quite stunned. I barely recognized her...and thus, a layout was born. I hope no one finds my title disturbing. It's actually supposed to be both funny and thought-provoking. My daughter is a wonderful girl and I love her completely and unconditionally. I just don't know her as well as I used to. JOURNALLING: "You buy make-up, not Webkinz. You wear black, not pink. You chat with Facebook, not family. Your fave # is 13...I'm not sure it's mine." Thanks for looking! :)
