Here's FLASH vying for the position of "FIRST DOG" right after President Obama was elected. The newspaper clippings are scans of the originals. I included a color print of the photo that was used in the newspaper.

Journaling:
The end of 2008 saw Barack Obama elected President of the United States. During his campaign, he indicated that one of the first things he would do once he got into the White House would be to ad a dog to the First Family, thus launching the term FIRST DOG into the media spotlight. Not completely clear on the concept, Flash took the call to heart when he responded to the local media request for candidates for the job of TOP DOG.

Here's Flash's campaign pitch: I should be FIRST DOG because I am brilliant. If chosen, I would help President Obama formulate policy regarding foreign insurgencies such as squirrels and cats and such. With my outstanding barking skills I would attend press conferences and bark strategically so that the President would not hear those pesky questions regarding the economy and foreign policy. Furthermore, my tack-sharp herding ability would allow me to keep Malia and Shasha together and safe. (Do you think they would allow me to keep a flock of sheep in the Rose Garden?) If chosen I would gladly serve as long as my mom and dad gave me permission, which I don't think they would do.
