Wow, Tracy. Your Lo was clean and simple but fantastic!! The pictures and color scheme work great and the journaling was very inspiring. It made me want to go out and volunteer!! you are so lucky to have a father like this, make sure you share this LO with him. Better yet, make a copy and buy a frame for it and give it to him for Father's Day. What a perfect gift.
I too love the clean graphic lines but what struck me most was the beautiful journalling - your dad is indeed a hero and he is lucky to have you as you obviously appreciate him and love him dearly, my warmest wishes go to your lovely dad and well done for your heartwarming LO, TFS
Journaling: Hero. It’s hard to define the word. Some people are born to be heroes. Look at any of the greek myths. But some people are heros because they see no other way to live. They see something worng and want to fix it. That’s my Father. Ever since I can remember he has been involved in the community. When I was growing up He was a Boy Scout leader and mentored several scouts into an Eagle. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and a Vigil Scout, and for those that know about the scouts, he had gold tabs on his shoulders. He worked har dot make sure that both my brother and I had every opportunity to do what we dreamed. He taught us to respect ourselves and others. He taught us how to take care of ourselves, and the importance of taking care of others. Nowadays he’s a member of the neighborhood association, and on the parks board. He worked hard last summer on several projects. He applied for a grant and received enough money to begin a fix up project at a local park. He got a picnic table and walking path established. He used mainly volunteer labor from the community and the park is on it’s way to being established. He worked on the committee that organized a neighborhood cleanup project. The mowed lawns, picked up fallen branches and even painted a lady’s house for her. It was all free. He expected no reward for his work, but he enjoyed when the projects themselves got noticed in the papers. It brought more attention and more support (not to mention volunteers). But he was rewarded. This fall the American Red Cross named him one of their community heroes. When he was invited to the award ceremony, he thought that the Neighborhood association would just get a little certificate, but tehn the “real heroes” would get the awards that thye deserved. But that wasn’t what happened. Awards were presented to people who had saved other peoples lives, and done what my father referered to as “true hero stuff”. And then The Award was presented to the Neighborhood association. It’s called the “Community Partner Hero Award”. Each member of the Committee received a Medal and a certificate honoring their achievement. Through their works the committee had managed to bring hope back to a community that had almost given up. The neighborhood has turned itself around and you can tell in little ways. People are trying to take better care of their homes and neighbors are helping each other. My father is a hero, and would be one even without this award. He loves his family. He loves his grandsons. He sacrifices himself for them, and loves the smiles he receives. Even when it means playing horsey on his hands and knees, with a reconstructed knee. For them, he would do anything. He wants to make the world a better place for them, and whether he thinks so or not, he is.
