My husband and his dad have the exact same logic when it comes to working on projects around the house - the sooner it gets done, the better!

Journaling:

Of course dads and their sons often have similar interests or personality traits, however I have truly come to understand the phrase “like father, like son” after observing Tim and John engrossed in project completion mode. When a project enters their mind, no matter what time it is or what’s on the agenda, breaking ground on the project that very second is always a great idea. I mean, why wait?

Some naïve women might think this trait would be beneficial and sure it can be at times, however these women haven’t experienced a kitchen floor being torn up at 10:00pm. This project, started on a whim and promised to last just one hour, ended up creating a two-week disaster area in our kitchen. Preparation and planning before getting started? Not with these two. Katie, my beloved step-mother-in-law, is the only one who understands the sense of urgency, often coupled with poor planning, that comes out of the woodwork (sometimes literally) once a project has been started by this father and son duo.

We’ve witnessed many project whirlwinds involving Lowe’s visits (sometimes 20), frustrated voices coming from the scene of the project and saw dust flying everywhere. They tell us we just don’t understand or appreciate the work they do. I think Katie and I would agree, it’s not that we don’t love all the work they do, it’s that we don’t appreciate being bowled over if we try to get between them and the project’s finish line.

Tim tries to rationalize his decision to start projects at inopportune times with phrases such as, “This will only take a minute!” and “Replacing will be a piece of cake!”. The thing is, I’d prefer if Tim never used the words project and quick in the same sentence again. The problem is, he actually believes these statements. I pity the fool.
