Photo of our cat, Marmalade, lying on the carpet. With his light coloring he almost blended into the background until I created a partial "mask" around him (like a large halo-like extraction of the area just behind him) which got set to "screen" (partial opacity) in the layers pallet. That was just for the photo. Merged it. Copied it to a 12"x12" canvas, enlarged and cropped it--then had fun with the conte crayon artistic filter tool.
