Journaling Reads:

“Is that on your budget?” A phrase I have heard about a million times since Tim and I created a budget for my discretionary purchases (or any purchase I want to make that Tim thinks is unnecessary). Most of this money is spent on scrapbooking supplies, clothes and shoes. I think that giving me a monthly “allowance” so to speak has been the best thing happened to our marriage thus far.

Prior to “my budget”, I would go shopping on my one hour lunch break (which just happens to situate me within 15 minutes of most of my favorite stores I might add) dreading what Tim would say when he saw what I got. Unfortunately, he didn't think shopping at lunch every day was a good idea. I got in big trouble pretty much every day (or at least it seemed like that to me, the innocent shopper).

Then, the idea of giving me my own budget swoops in to save the day! I loved the idea of being able to buy whatever I wanted each month, as long as I complied with my budget restrictions. Tim always asked me to just talk to him about things that I wanted to buy, yet when I called to ask, the answer was always no we don't need that right now. What's the fun in that?

Budget, thank you for giving me the freedom to buy what I need, when I need it, even if Tim thinks I don't need it. You have given us a happier marriage and less arguing about my purchasing habits. So thank you budget, I owe you at least one month's allowance for your help.
