How cool is that? We are from a BN family, three generations of men worked for the Great Northern, Burlington, Santa Fe, and one of my BILs would be the one that sent out that machine if they hadn't just retired.

MINI MAR...POD...18 Gizmo...RR track scrap magnet

3-18-10...When I was at the river last week, a detail of BNSF Railroad maintenance equipment went by. The orange GIZMO is a scrap magnet, it "sweeps" the tracks, picking up any scrap metal like spikes, plates, or joints that the tie or steel gangs have left on the tracks. The metal is deposited in the scrap car that's behind the operator's cab. [P3181219]
