Okay, aside from the fact that it does not look like it, this took longer than any other layout that I've ever done, I swear. It's an awesome story~

Kutzky Park Treasure Hunt

in the early 1900's our neighborhood "Kutzky Park" was the edge of town when the famous Mayo Clinic was created. Prior to our neighborhood being built, there was a landfill here. No one really knows what our homes are sitting upon, but we have seen that there are many treasures!

One day, during some unfortunate digging in Noah *********'s front yard (sewer issues) the boys watched in AWE as the bulldozer created a mountain of treasures! When it was safe they ventured over, and started collecting the colorful glass bottles that trickled down the side of the dirt mountain. With this being a previous landfill, and no plastic yet, this is where the bottles of ink, perfume, milk and other things ended up. But now, they were being rediscovered by the kids! They also found other things like metal pots and pans, china dishes and a few other "questionable" items (a few bones and shoes!!)

The boys filled their wheelbarrow, and hauled them over to our driveway to wash away the years of dirt that covered and filled them. And then, the sum came out and made them sparkle and it was an amazing sight! Ethan, Aidan and Noah offled at the bottles, every shape and size and color! What fun!!

And then Terry, our neighbor, who is an antique appraiser, was walking home from his office, and stopped dead in his tracks. He asked where they had gotten the bottles. And as the boys glanced over to the "treasure pile", Terry's eyes widened. He went over to where Ethan and Noah had their collections, and inspected each bottle carefully. (Mom stood back to watch what would happen next, as a lightbulb went on above Ethan's head!)

Terry was very silent as he carefully looked at and touched each bottle. He asked the boys of they were interested in selling some of the bottles. OF COURSE, the boys said "YES!!!" in a heartbeat. Oh what a few $$'s could buy for a 6 year old! After the inspection, Terry carefully chose an equal amount of bottles from each of the boys, still leaving them a large collection. And then handed each of them a crisp $20 bill. As quickly as they had been enthralled with the bottles, they were as enthralled with the money that they had just earned! I saw another lightbulb go off above Ethan's head, and the boys came running over to me!
"MOM"! Look what Terry gave us!!! Can we go to ABC TOY ZONE??? (a high end toy store at the end of our street).
oh......the wonder of these kids. I was j ust overwhelmed by this event and couldn't say no...
Ethan and Noah turned their bottles into LEGOS! :) A perfect "KUTZKY PARK TREASURE HUNT"!
