This is my entry for the Grunge Forum Challenge at Swirlydoos. Grunge is a gazillion miles out of my comfort zone, so this challenge was way scary for me!

The photo is me and my then three-year-old appaloosa stallion Wap Rah Cheer at the 2007 Appaloosa National Show. We're waiting for our turn to present in the 2 & 3 year old hunter stallions class. He had a stellar "go" and finished fourth in the nation. His huge white ribbon hangs over my scrap desk. This is the last picture I have of me and Faroh together. He died the next summer of liver cancer, leaving an enormous hole in my life and in my heart. This picture has been waiting for the right set of circumstances to line up, and when I saw the title quote on the patterned paper for this month, I knew it was time. I hope I did him proud. He would expect nothing less from me.

I used a Tim Holtz Technique to create the base paper. I applied Crushed Olive Distress Ink directly to the Olive cardstock paper, covered it with clear embossing powder, flicked the back of the paper to allow some - a LOT actually - of the embossing powder to come off, then heated the part that remained. After it was embossed, I applied Tea Dye Distress Ink to the cardstock, giving it a grungy look.

I distressed the edges of the patterned paper (7 Gypsies Murano), then crumpled it up in a ball, spread it back out and inked it with Tea Dye Distress Ink. Edges, seams, folds - everywhere I could find a place to put ink, I inked! I inked the mesh ribbon (Swirlydoos March kit) with Tea Dye and Walnut Distress inks, then stitched down the ruffles with some turquoise metallic embroidery thread from my stash.

The polka dot flowers are from my stash - Hobby Lobby, I think - and the small enamel ones are left over from my first Park Avenue project. The small black flowers are cream colored Prima Hydrangeas, sprayed with homemade Black Soot Shimmer Mist, and then adhered with pewter brads. I pounded the brad tops with my craft hammer. The blue dogwood flowers were from the February Swirlydoos kit. I stamped and inked them with Black Soot. The bling centers are Prima and were in the Swirlydoos Park Avenue kit.

The chipboard crosses are also from the Park Avenue kit. I inked them up with Walnut stain. The title is chipboard from the Swirlydoos Butterfly Whispers kit, inked with Black Soot, then sanded off. I stapled it on to the page with my Tiny Attacher.

The flourish is a public domain freebie I found somewhere (sorry, I don't remember where it came from) which I printed off on an ink jet transparency and adhered with Glossy Accents. I finished off with just a little black bling from Kaisercraft on the edges of the flourish.

Thanks for looking! I appreciate comments and suggestions!
