Photos taken from the bell tower. Journaling: We paid $1 to climb the stairs to the bell tower of Iglesia La Merced. The stairs were steep and twisted with no hand rail for most of the way. It was worth the climb for a panoramic view of Granada. In the tower is a sign taped to the wall beside the bell saying “Don’t Pull & Don’t Touch Please”. Who could resist after that? As you can see Ken couldn’t. Oddly enough it was the only sign or notice I saw in the whole country that was just in English. Most signs are in Spanish only. My theory is that a Nica would never pay $1 to climb the stairs.
