WOW!!! You are so creative!!! I love the photo of your backyard! Your stitching is amazing and that you did it on vellum, really amazing!!! It gets an innovative and FAV from me : ) Oh and did I mention, it is GORGEOUS too!!!
This is my project for the April Swirlydoos "Stitch It Up" challenge.
The photograph is my backyard on the first day of spring, which was the last day we got snow this year. It was a long, hard winter. We had more snow than I can ever remember. I had contracted hay, but my supply ran out a month early, and it was hard to find any to feed my horses. All the hay producers were holding it for their cows. Nobody was sure if there would be another snowfall or not, and they weren't taking any chances of being caught short. I spent the last month of this year's winter scrabbling for square bales and paying premium prices for them.
I love this photograph, taken just around sunset, the way the light catches the tree line along the creek bed, against the blue sky, new green grass, and the last of the white snow. I've never been more happy to see spring arrive. The small photograph under the transparent frame is this year's first robin, and he's a welcome guest in my backyard this year!
The challenge involved "stitching anywhere on the page" and "something handmade." I cut out the center of the velum paper pattern, then stitched it to the cardstock, both around the frame and blanket stitched around the edges. The yellow rose in the lower corner is a Tim Holtz grungepaper rose, inked with homemade shimmer mist. The butterflies and bird are from Lunagirl's CD images. The black flowers are from my Prima stash, and the smaller flowers are KaiserCraft 50 vanilla colored flat flowers. The pink looking ones are "triple layer" glue ups, inked with stucco cateye ink, and the flats have a little black bling in the centers. The stamp is an old Autumn Leaves one, enhanced with Gunmetal Stickles. The big glitter title letters are Thickers Glitters. I also used my Martha Stewart "Birds on a Wire" punch for the first time on this layout. I love the way it looks!
