Very nice! Thanks. I'm an avid Katz fan too and feel like I know Rose as well. I didn't realize he didn't keep sheep any more. I'll have to check out his blog. I was searching LOs getting some ideas for the pages I'm planning for my shetland sheepdogs about herding and yours was one of the few that came up. Glad I stumbled upon it and your other Katz LOs.
Beautiful and I love how the eye is directed to the title and the corner. Great job! Also, I love all your descriptions. Shows how much love and thought you put into each one.
I love the simplicity and how it just makes that amazing picture pop! Awesome choice of purple! Love the story, are you writer too? You do such a nice job writing about your layouts. I now have to check out this author!
WOnderful cropped candid photo~ I am a cat person by nature, but every one of your dog pages conveys such a deep and abiding friendship and love, which shines in each special canine's eyes! I love the blue and brown color scheme, which makes Rose stand out all the more. The simplicity of the design and the tenderness of the quote draw one in to inspect those loyal brown eyes.
He did a great job capturing the intent 'border' look, didn't he? And you did an awesome job maintaining that focus with the perfect embellishments and pps for your LO. I will have to look up that blog/book, I don't think I have read anything by him, but I love working dogs and especially Border Collies. I have a Border mix and he is happiest when he is busy, although not nearly as dedicated as Rose sounds!! Thanks so much for sharing!
sigh! this is just so lovely... the quote is perfect...my heart is full of little places where dogs live..including my favorite border collie Cinder.
Jon is so right about the eyes and he did a beautiful job capturing her and you did a beautiful job showcasing Rose. Stellar!
What a gorgeous girl she is and that picture is awesome. As usual loved reading your story. Great work on keeping the focus on her and not going girlie!
Wopw!! what a gorgeous layout, love the papers and the arrow, but that story is amazing, how cool that you are doing this for Jon, you are so kind, I love this breed of dog they are so super intelligent and Rose looks beautiful, see what you mean about the eyes, will have to try that.
Love this...what a great dog...I have a dog that is part border collie and part blue heeler...he is such a smart and devoted dog...love that you left it plain... great page !!!
This beautiful Border Collie is Rose. I feel like I know her although we've never met in person. She is one of four dogs that grace the home and farm of author Jon Katz. Jon is one of my favorite authors and I probably own every book he's written about his life with dogs. I follow his blog every day so I feel I "know" his beloved dogs.

In addition to being a great writer and storyteller, Jon is an amazing photographer. With his permission, I am using some of his photos for a series of LOs celebrating his (and Maria's) life with four dogs at Bedlam Farm in upstate New York.
Rose is a working dog. She cares little about anything except her work; that work being sheep and Jon. She has literally saved Jon's life on a couple of occasions and he boasts that he could not have survived those first years on the farm without her. Next year, Jon's novel based on life with Rose will be published. It is called "Rose in a Storm" and while it is a work of fiction, there is much that will be true-to-life. Jon is also working on a book about grieving the loss of a pet.
Rose and Jon have been without sheep on the farm for about a year now, but recently, he has decided to bring a few back - at least for the summer. Rose has not been without sheep to herd, but she will be in her glory as Jon returns sheep to her pastures!
I kept this LO very plain. No flowers, no ribbon, no frou-frou. Rose is not a girly-girl dog. She is not warm and fuzzy, although to Jon's amazement, one of the other dogs, Lenore, has taught her how to play and have FUN. Rose is focused and devoted. She is stubborn and diligent. She is alert and prepared. Jon often says, "Rose did a stellar job, as usual," when referring to her helping round up a neighbor's stray cattle, or assisting owners with their sheep for time-trials. Rose's work ethic is above reproach. Everyone who knows her says she is stellar.
TIP: Jon says that when photographing a dog, always go for the eyes. He's done that beautifully here, hasn't he?
I did this LO for the "Beat the Rush" crop last weekend at Pages in Time. The challenge was to do a pet page and use a quote.
