My layout for the weeklong challenge.

This is a layout about our front porch. I was digging through my misc box of stuff and found the fuzzy rubon words and they worked perfectly with this layout. The journaling on the left page is the words to the song "If the World Had a Front Porch" by Tracy Lawrence.

The journaling on the right page is as follows:

I remember when Tracy Lawrence released the song “If the World Had a Front Porch”. Larry and I had talked about putting a covered front porch on our house for several years, and the song hit home to us. That is what we wanted, a front porch for those hot summer nights and those cool autumn evenings when the fire felt good. The kids were excited but there was always something else that had to be paid for or fixed first….so we went without the “front porch” for years.

After Jeana died, we decided that the front porch was going to be a priority. Our family, friends and neighbors had given us a glider rocker and we needed a place to waste away some time in it. Thanks to a income tax refund and a lot of help from our neighbor Roy and our families, the front porch was finally a dream come true. We put the glider rocker right in the middle, bought a fire pit, and called everyone to come over for the first “porch party”. It was a hit then and continues to be.

Whether it is a night around the fire pit with friends, a cooler, all the makings of smores, and lots of stories or sitting out there by myself when it is raining and I just want to sit and listen to the rain hit the tin roof, I love the front porch. The view out across the pasture and pond of an evening can be breath taking. The porch swing Larry and I built from locusts posts, an old porch swing, and the barnwood off my Grandpa's barn is one of my favorite spots to relax and sometimes even take a nap. I love that when the neighbors drive by they never fail to honk and wave if we are chillin' on the porch. The kids will drag their homework out there in the spring when it is just to pretty to be inside. We've cranked up the ice cream maker during the summer for homemade ice cream and ate it all straight from the container while watching the fireflies or hummingbirds buzz around our heads. The kids have had “campouts” and porch parties for their friends and there is nothing more heart warming than sitting in my scraproom listening to them all chatter on the porch.

Just like in the song, I think the front porch has brought us all closer together. It is a great place to sit and laugh with each other without a blaring tv in the background and we can certainly ignore the phone while we are wasting away a night. To my way of thinking, the front porch is the best investment we ever made in our house, our home, our family!!

The pictures are of the front porch across the front of the house, the view of our pasture with horses I talked about, the fire pit one cool evening, and the porch swing and glider rocker I wrote about.
