This is great, Lisa. I love how you used a map of Africa for the Africa exhibit at the zoo. You're a distressing master! Your map really does look burnt. You did a great job imitating that effect. Beautiful layering and sweet pics.
I was surprised to read that you inked the edges of the Africa map page. I actually thought that you really had burnt them since it looks like real burn marks!! Very good job on this!
I love that map. I thought you'd really burned it until I read your description. That's AWESOME! I like the way you tucked that ribbon behind those tears -- sort of like a peek-a-boo, but not exactly. It's innovative and fresh. I shrink images all the time when I can't make them fit. I totally get it about the photographs. You want to use the best ones you've got, but sometimes the best one is the best two. ;-) Great job. Into my favs with this one. It's getting to be a habit with your work!
Wow! I absolutely love this!!! All your techniques are fabulous!!! OK, Lisa, how much time did you spend on this and will you teach me?? :o) Love both photos too.
this is incredible -- I love how you used the map. Great work. The little hints of lace popping are look wonderful. I think the 2 pics together are fantastic.
Boy did you rock this challenge! I absolutely love this page and sent it straight to my faves. Great layering and distressing and love your paper and color choices. BTW: thanks for your sweet comments on my Serious Business LO. I appreciate it.
More San Diego vacation pics. This is Cassie at the Heart of Africa exhibit in the SD Wild Animal Park. I used both pics even though they are similar because I couldn't decide between them. The lighting and focus are prettier in the right photo, but I love the view of the hills in the bg of the left photo. Hey - I live in the midwest - I don't get to see hills often :)
I started with the map of Africa pp which I tore and inked to appear burnt. For the green pp layer, I did little tears all the way around and inked and curled up the edges and sprayed it with GM. The base cs layer is just inked and misted. The zebra mat layer is edge distressed and inked. I painted the edges of the photos with gold acrylic paint. The animal print ribbons are sewn on with messy machine stitching. The ribbon showing behind the tears in the map is made of jute fibers. The bingo card is a reduced copy on cream cs (then inked) of a Jenni Bowlin card I have that I thought was too big for the LO. The three non-layered flowers started out cream, but I misted them with GM. The vine heart is from Mandy (Craftysprinkles), and I sprinkled some loose glitter around it to de-sticky the excess adhesives I used to attach it to the LO. I also tied a little scrap of green fibers around the heart. Lastly, I wrote the date on cream cs, inked it and put it behind the little cs bookplate which I also inked. Then, I covered the date window with Crackle Accents - my first time, and I LOVE it! Unfortunately, it doesn't show up well in the pic.
This is for: 1. Monthly Sketch Challenge - Week 3. I did the twist to use supplies or photos over a year old -- my photos are from January 2007.
2. Use Your Supplies Week 4 ~ Ribbon/Fiber/Thread. I have 3 animal print ribbons, the jute fiber ribbon, another small piece of green fibers, and 2 threads (brown & black) so I covered the twist.
