My daughter during a cross country race. The journal block is special to me. It is a piece that her grandmother wrote for her church bulletin that was inspired by Alyssa. It reads: "... and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith...: Hebrews 12: 1-2. I was recently at a cross country invitational. My granddaughter was running (2 miles) and I was there to cheer her on. Cross-country is not an easy sport. You run uphill and downhill, there are twists and turns, some of the terrain is rough, some is smooth. The runners cross the finish line exhausted. Alyssa's race made me think about Christ's Invitational. I accepted the invitation and challenge some years ago. Like the cross country race, I've found there have been times when the terrain has been smooth, but certainly times when it has been rough. There have ben twists and turns, and things have not always gone as I had hoped or planned. Often I have needed to be reminded to run with perseverance the race marked out for me, keeping my eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith. Gladys Carlson
