Upper left picture - our guide was still on the elephant - he jumped off half way through and let the men move up to the place behind the neck and ears and they guides then walked beside us and snapped pictures using our cameras. Again, these are from 2 different cameras so our shirts are yellow in one and orange - the real color in the other.

Here is the journalling on this page:

The elephant ride was amazing! The name of our elephant was Mary; Marc and Linda's elephant had a Thai I couldn't pronounce then and I don't remember now.

The lower left picture shows a little bit of the trail – it was not level; it was a mountain trail and at some times it was a little steep but fortunately the elephants were very sure-footed.

We started the ride with Bill and me in the basket/seat and Marc and Linda in the basket/seat on their elephant's back. We each had a guide who was riding bareback on the elephant with us with their legs straddling behind the elephant's ears. They held long poles with sharp curved points on the end to poke the elephants when they wandered off the trail to eat (which they did constantly).

When we got to the end of the line and ready to go back down the trail our guides jumped off and had Marc and Bill climb out of the baskets and ride on the elephant's neck with legs straddling behind the elephant's ears. Then the guides walked beside us and continued to use the poles to keep our elephants on the trail. They also asked for our cameras and took pictures of us riding our elephants all the way back along the trail.

This was truly one of the most awesome things I've ever done in my life!
