Monday, November 16th – We woke up in Singapore!

This was the last port of the cruise but the ship was going to be docked overnight so we could go back to the ship whenever we wanted for meals and to sleep that night. Then on Tuesday we had to disembark and say good-bye to the lovely Legend of the Sea.

This was the last two days we could spend with Marc and Linda, as they would be flying home Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

When we got off the ship on Monday we had to go through immigrations to have our passports checked to enter Singapore. A single man who was in line behind us started talking to Bill and we invited him to join the 4 of us for the day to explore Singapore. He seemed nice enough, and definitely presentable. His manners towards Linda and me were charming – he came off as a true fine southern gentleman. He was very likeable and he spent most of the day with us.

We all purchased credit-card-sized passes which allowed unlimited rides on the train and bus system.

When the five of us returned to the ship David told us, “Don't be surprised when if some of the crew call me ‘Captain'” and he was right, as soon as we went through security on the ship the crew started saying, “Welcome back, Captain”. We didn't know why and didn't really give it much thought. Just didn't seem important.

David told us he would be having dinner with a woman he met on the ship. We had two extra places at our table, as one couple was dining in Singapore so we invited them to join us.

We nearly fell over when David showed up at our table. His date did not show up for dinner (we think she took one look at him and realized he was a nut case). He was in a full Captain's uniform, complete with hat. No wonder the crew called him Captain. He told us he bought the outfit in India.

Linda and I were embarrassed to have him at our table but the men though he was funny at first but quickly realized that he was really weird! He sat at our table and asked, “Am I supposed to take the hat off during dinner? I don't really know the protocol.”

Other guests on the ship thought he really was the Captain and approached him with questions and complaints. Whenever he got a complaint he told them, “I'm so sorry that happened. Just check at the customer service desk tomorrow and there will be ship credits issued in your name.” He was promising credits to guests on the ship who had complaints!

Later we heard that he was down by the gangplank welcoming guests back on board the ship. We saw him around 11:00 that night and he was not wearing his captain's uniform anymore. We are pretty sure something was said to him about impersonating a Captain. Somewhere there really was a village missing their idiot.
