6-14-10...Isn't this is a beautiful sight?? I've always been a cloud watcher/star gazer...our universe fascinates me. When I was a kid my Dad was constantly saying, "Get your head out of the clouds and watch where you're going or you're gonna stub your toe." lol!! Well, sometimes if you have your head in the clouds you see rare & beautiful things. This phenomenon is called iridescent clouds or cloud iridescence. [P6147414]

IRIDESCENT CLOUDS:
Clouds that exhibit brilliant bright spots, bands, or borders of colors, usually red and green, observed up to about 30 degrees from the sun. Coloration is due to the diffraction phenomena, with small cloud particles producing the effect. Usually thin cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus are iridescent clouds.
