6-18-10...I'm not sure if other parts of the country do this but this is a common REGIONAL practice in the Pacific Northwest. This US Army Corps of Engineers barge is transporting juvenile Chinook Salmon down the Columbia River past the dams. The spillways are too hazardous for them to navigate so they are barged or sometimes trucked from fish hatcheries so they have a better chance of getting to the ocean. [P6187844]
