SHCG: Very nice Sharon.... you really know how to pull of these multi-photo, multi-page LOs! I really like how you added the little flowers in the title and used coordinating flowers on the opposite page. How cool that you had the opportunity to meet all these people!
SHCG: This is fantastic. Love the journaling (surprise, surprise). What a wonderful event, and fantastic way to meet family. The photos are awesome and I really like the colors you used. The mats are perfect. I really like how you journaled a bit on the photos. The flowers are perfect and I love how you used them to dot the i's. Beautiful story.
SHCG: So cool that you got a chance to visit and meet your family members! I think this lo is perfect the way it is! The pps are perfect, the mats, the journaling and the flowers! I really don't see anything that bugs me!
SHCG: This page is beautiful. I think what I love most is the way you used Ambrosia pps to pull it all together. While I wouldn't have thought your style would work well with that collection, you've certainly transformed it to work well. I love your super thin matting. How lovely that your aunt seems highlighted subtly because of your color choices, but it doesn't overly draw away from the whole family.
Great photos, beautiful work.
SHCG: First off, absolutely no critiques necessary. These pages are all about family, how large it is from both sides and how it is brimming with love, which is why a streamlined look to the spread really enhances these group photos. I also love that you used a primarily red orange monochromatic scheme, because it makes the blues stand out on their own, especially Auntie Evangelina in her radiance. I so love the BG flower punches(?) (from scraps?) to get more use of that lovely pp, which complements your dress, btw. Is the wavy hyphen between the title words a punch, too? Jingle bell brad centers are a super cute idea. (A nod to Jing Jing? Gotta love those Filipino one syllable repeated nicknames. :D) The light ribbon is a really nice way to underscore your journaling; my favorite part is your reference to your Auntie Evangeline's entry. LOVE Max's, rarely get to go here in the Bay Area. It is such a treat. Super generous of your folks, too. Awe-inspiring that they are both from 12 siblings. How funny you have a pic of people with the initial D and then there's Sharon & Greg. That little Lianne, what a cutie! It's wonderful that you had this experience within an experience with your family. I can see that she definitely lives on in your dad and the rest of your huge, beautiful family.
Wonderful journaling Sharon! So glad you got this trip/experience. I'd love to know what all you'd asked on those guestbook pages and how you've used them since.
This LO is re: a family dinner my parents hosted when DH & I went to the Philippines w/ them in 2007. I am the only person in my immediate family who wasn't born in the Philippines & this was my 1st visit. Both of my parents came from families of 12 kids each so this dinner was the first time I met so many of my relatives! It was amazingly fun & moving to connect w/ faraway family. I scrapped this late last year but now this LO is even more poignant because just a few weeks ago, my dad's sister Evangeline passed away (she's wearing a blue dress in these pics); I am so thankful we got to meet one another while we had the chance!
As usual, my scanner chopped off some of the side edges, sigh. The orange sequin flowers are shiny & stand out better IRL; I used golden jingle bell brads for the centers.
Journaling "Fri Nov 16, 2007 – We had millions of amazing & meaningful moments during our Philippines vacation. My parents hosted a family dinner at Max's Restaurant in Manila's SM Mall. A wonderful event! Met many relatives (more from Dad's side were able to attend). From Mom's side, cousin Neung – so sweet & affectionate. Friendly Jing Jing – Uncle Medel's wife – w/ her shy son. Uncle Medel's daughter Zendel, her boyfriend Marc & their daughter – all so nice. Cousin Dulce, who I knew from when she lived in TX, couldn't make it. From Dad's side, his remaining sisters Norma, Paz, Luz & Evangelina, as well as his brother Cesar, & various members of their families. Norma, a teacher, helped explain who was who on Dad's side of the family. Luz brought us keychains from Singapore, where her son works. Retired teacher Paz was named for 'peace' during WWII. Also met Ros, the widow of late Dom (Dad's deceased brother) as well as several of their 11 kids! Donna, one of the 11, was visiting from Stamford, CT, where she works as a nurse. Abundant cousins – Juliet (Jhun's daughter), her 2 kids, many more! It was all so lovely! I had people fill out interactive guestbook pages that I created (which had room for people's photos) so I could know more about my family; not everyone filled out pages or had pics taken, but I'm so blessed that many of them did! Funny when Dolly asked me how I'd ID the pages later - I had written down people's outfits, & asked Mom & Greg to be aware of who everyone was, plus Greg filmed a lot of intros, because I had already thought about identifying stuff later! Evangelina wrote on hers that she was: 'very happy to see my brother, sister-in-law & especially Greg & Sharon' – how thoughtful! Max's food was expectedly excellent – crab corn soup, lumpia, pancit, fried chicken, rice, veggies, pitchers of sweet iced tea & a tasty pandan/green jello/buko dessert. I had brought the photo book I created for Dad's '05 birthday, it was an enjoyable way to share our lives w/ our relatives. Towards the end, my parents handed out various snacks & gifts to everyone. Dad & Mom are both 1of 12 kids, so you can imagine how many family members I had never met! It was an awesome & incredible gathering! And it was very generous of my parents to host a dinner that let us all connect w/ one another. Everyone had a marvelous time!"
