I think you have done wonderfully!!!!!!! I love the torn paper! The colors are perfect ....and I love all those books! ps thanks very much for the compliment! <3
SHCG: This is adorable. I love all the elements you incorporated into this LO. the crumpled music paper is awesome. I think it would look better if the journal were closer to the picture (like pages in a book) and the music paper came out on the right. As for "highlighting" I would suggest that you "bold" it (can you print it again?) and maybe underline it too, to help it pop off the page.
SHCG: As a fellow lover of books I think this page is great! I love all of the embellishments and the title work! I've read your concerns, and you received some cool suggestions. I love it the way it is!
SHCG: I don't really think there's anything new I can add! Well, other than I think you're over thinking it. :) You've gotten a lot of great suggestions, but this is awesome just as it is. Super page Brenda!
what a great topic! I love how you've picked up the red from the different books and the sort of gothic touch with the drippy punch and chandelier. Fabulous journaling--I'm a bibliophile so I completely understand!
SHCG - Writing a note to myself to revise my recent BWC posts so that I can give ya props for responding to Wendy's BWC. This is an excellent challenge response. I think you captured your scridol's (get it?) spirit nicely, in your own style. Cool how this is both graphic-y (w/ the bold mattes, dark background & straight cut middle portion) & collage-y (w/ everything else) at once. I ADORE the crumpled music pp matte & graph paper journaling! The drippy punch rules. I do like some of the suggestions you've received so far. I like Denitza's suggestion to have the pic & journaling closer, w/ the oh-so-fab crumpled music pp matte peeking out from the right. I like the idea of darkening the journaling font & squaring particular words for emphasis. And I like the idea of a chandelier in a darker color to better meld w/ the other bold elements here. Great embellies/ribbon cluster under the journaling.... I'm thinking perhaps wrap the top left of the pic w/ the same ribbon, & add some coordinating bling/embellies around the title, so we see those elements somewhere else on this page. Sensational scrapping, Brenda!
SHCG: This is a great response to Wendy's challenge!!! I love your topic, the picture of your books with the bookmarks is fab! I really love the chandelier but I wish it was in a darker color so it would stand out more. The design is great, I really like that you used the drippy goo punch cause I love it so much. The graph paper is great, maybe you can make the font a little darker or maybe you could use a blank page out of one of your old books and put the journaling on that, it would tie in the book theme. I love the crumpled music paper and I agree with D's idea to draw a box around certain words in the journaling, that would look great.
SHCG: This is stunning, I love everything about it from the idea/topic, to the colors and the elements that you've used. The chandaleir is awsome and I really love the crumpled music sheet. The only thing is that the journaling is really overpowering the layout. Maybe you could try to split it into two seperate journal blocks or even making some of it hidden? Doing the journaling on graph paper is very original.
SHCG:Great lo for Wendy's challenge! I love the photo and all the elements you used here! I can see Mom2CamiandReese style in your lo , in your own way and I love it! I also see that this lo is some what different from your style and I'm loving it! I don't think you bisected the page, because the main part-photo, embellies, journaling, is more towards the top-that creates 3 different " stripes" that are different sizes and that adds interest to me! I like the way you used the music sheet-very cool with the journaling! I think you should try to move the pic a bit to the right , remove the music sheet from that side, move the journaling to the left, so the pic and journaling are closer, even touching. I would try to tilt the pic a bit too. Then put the music sheet on the other side of the journaling-the right side. Move all the other elements with the journaling. If you want to high light some words, you can just draw a box around them-I don't think yellow high light will be good here. I like the graph paper. I also like the title and the blood drips! I secretly hope that Bill will never be found, but I'm so glad you found the " lost" bookmark-that was a sign for you to switch teams. Go, Team Eric! I think you did awesome job here! I'm loving Bren in the lo thread, so get this one done and do some more! I wanna see more!
This is for the 2010 SHCG BWC#1-Remember Your Passion (by Wendy). Journaling reads: I love books. I love bookmarks. I love bookstores. I love the smell of books. I love the power a good book can have over me. I love when a book is so well written it consumes me and the world around me melts away. Books are music to my eyes. I have a decent sized library of books I've read, books I haven't finished reading, books I haven't read, books I've read more than once, books other people want me to read, and some books I didn't really like that much but can‘t seem to get rid of. There are just so many books, and so little time. And just like I do sometimes when I love something so much, I take for granted that it'll always be there. Then, before I know it, so much time has passed without paying it any attention, that when I do turn to it for comfort, I have to reacquaint myself with it, and relearn how to commit and devote time to it. A new year and a new decade is an opportunity for me to rediscover an old passion, to renew a vow between myself and an old friend. Excuse me, but it's time to surrender myself and get cozy with a good book now.
The photo, mat, music pp, items above prose, journaling, and items below the journaling are not adhered. I've pushed pieces around since February and cannot get myself to commit, so now I turn to my SHcrapperzz for help. The more I look at it with these elements and this placement, the more comfortable I am with what I see. However, I'm still at the point where I'm open to ideas. I'm particularly not too sure about the graph paper for my journaling, and I'm worried that the page is bisected rather than following a rule of thirds. I'm also thinking of highlighting a few items in the journaling like one would highlight favorite quotes in a book, like "consumes me," "music to my eyes," "so many books so little time," and "surrender myself;" or maybe just underline them if the highlighter ink might be too fluorescent. I appreciate your thoughts and critiques.
One of my fave artists on this site is Mom2CamiandReese. I feel like she's the scrafter who most represents my inner style clawing to come out. I tried to channel her eclectic use of ephemera here, and I hope that finally applying my inspiration doesn't disappoint her too badly.
The typewriter letters and crossword die cut were part of a birthday stash from Marlene. Thank you! The music pp was part of a gift box filler from my schrubby which I also used on his Muse birthday card (in my gallery).
The two bookmarks featured in the photo are gifts from MyN (Denitza) and Michelle (Chell Rae) pictured left to right. MyN gave me the monogrammed bookmark when I first started reading the Sookie Stackhouse books, and I was devastated when I lost it, then elated when I found it--just like Bill Compton! Yay! Michelle gave me the bookmark as part of our True Blood Truebiezz ATC swap. The back reads, "Life begins at night," a quote by Charlaine Harris in one of the books. The swap images also appear in my gallery.
BTW, since I first started this page, I am happy to report that I have definitely kept my passion for prose blazing, with much thanks, encouragement, and support from my Truebiezz--MyN, Marlene, Michelle, & Tay. Go Team Bill!
Wendy, thank you so much for the challenge... on so many levels!
