I found this picture of me posing in my high school graduation cap and gown and wanted to commemorate 1968-the year that was! The little car is a picture of our 1966 Mustang and I cut out some bell-bottoms and paisley as well. The year stands out in history due to the peace/war movements and the assassinations. I had fun doing this layout with no design or plan going into it. Journaling is: I was born in 1950 and thus spent my growing up years in the 60's. I graduated from High School in 1968. 1968 was the year that:
Martin Luther King was assassinated. The Vietnam War was in full swing and violent protests against it were on the news every night. Riots were commonplace as the peace movement progressed. Gasoline was 34 cents a gallon. An average house cost 15,000.00. Minimum wage was 1.60. President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act. Popular movies were The Graduate and Bonnie and Clyde. NASA launched its Apollo mission and circled the moon. The first successful heart transplant was performed. Emergency 911 services started in America. The first ATM machine was installed. Big Macs were offered for 49 cents. “60 Minutes” aired on CBS for the first time. Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated. Friends of mine were killed in the Vietnam War and others lived in fear of the draft. Life Magazine kept the War fresh in everyone's mind. I was a flower child as much as a country girl in Kentucky could be. I wore bell-bottoms, ironed my long hair and wore huge hoop earrings. I thought I was cool driving our baby blue 1966 Mustang! Even though I lived a sheltered life I still felt the pain and anguish of the troubled times,: however, I also felt pride in the accomplishments and inventions of the sixties
Thanks for looking.
