This was done for the Test A Theory, for Hallmark cards challenge, in honour of my mother who will turn 90 years old this Oct.
My mom was born in Tobago and loves being near the ocean so I added shells for that reason. Her home and gardens are full of plants and flowers which she used to tend regularly with her watering can. Since having a stroke 10 years ago, Mom watches the birds at the feeders from where she sits at the window every day and it seems to help her pass the time of day. The pearls were added simply because she likes them.
Everything except the background paper, pearls, shells, frayed ribbon and the 3 birds were cut, painted and inked from 5 Hallmark cards, including the verse. The fanned shell was also cut from a Hallmark card. I cut the pink and red flowers along with the watering can with my Cricut, then sponge-painted or inked them. The flower petals were then curled over the end of my finger for depth. The small frame was a Hallmark embossed 'Thank You' note. I cut the writing from the centre of the frame then lightly inked the raised areas for accent. The border strips were cut from one large card across the bottom, then opened to reveal both sides, when opened flat.
Special thanks to Mrs. Bean for the beautiful frayed cloth ribbon, and to Anderjackie for the cute little birds. Both were perfect for this LO.
FYI: Anyone wishing to post a LO using Hallmark cards after Aug. 11, 9:00 p.m., PLEASE post it anyway, let me know, and the LO will still be viewed and appreciated for it's artistic value, beauty and style as this is only the first round of Testing A Theory. Evaluations will likely be ongoing for a few weeks to really get the feel for what we are trying to prove. Thanks so much.
