This was the quarry that was to provide the limestone to build the state capitol building. The limestone proved to be unacceptable for building so they used Texas pink granite instead. They used convict labor as the state treasury was empty and it was free labor. Eight convicts died here at this quarry hence the name. The quarry is now a housing development and a shopping center (Travis County, TX). I had gone there to collect a few small strontianite micro specimens for my collection. I would add a photo of the specimens but it requires a microscope to view them and my 'scope does not have a camera tube for taking photos.
