It has always been a tradition in my dad’s family to name babies after family members. I was thrilled to carry on this tradition with my own babies. Several years before you were born we decided that if we ever had a girl we would name her Elisabeth Knight.

When I found out that we were expecting our 2nd child we agreed to find out the sex of the baby at the 20week ultrasound. When the ultrasound revealed that I was carrying a girl Daddy immediately decided that you would be named Elisabeth Knight. However, I was hesitant to settle on that name. I began to worry that you might not look like an Elisabeth Knight when you were born. So I began to search for some alternate names just in case. I considered Charlotte and Kasten as possible alternatives. Daddy, on the other hand, decided that I was crazy. He thought that Kasten was not femine enough for his little girl. In the end it was decided that you looked like an Elisabeth Knight, and I think that it suits you just fine.

Elisabeth is after my paternal grandmother, Charlotte Elisabeth Kasten Lord, and is also my middle name. Knight is after her husband Frank Knight Lord Jr. My grandmother passed away
when I was 8 years old so my memories of her are scattered. I do remember that we spent a lot of time at her house and it was always filled with food and love. I am honored to be named after her and to pass that tradition down to my own daughter. Your great-grandfather was a very loving, giving and kind man. He would do anything for anyone and would have had a blast spoiling you rotten. I’m sorry that you didn’t get a chance to meet them but I know that you will one day. For now I hope that you know that your name is special, and connects you to your family.
