Oh my! First let me tell you that the LO is great but with that I need to tell you that I worked at the Old Tyme photo studio there at the top of that hill at "Ghost Town In The Skye". Is that funny? I was there the summer of 84 fresh out of school. I loved every minute of my job there. The people are incredible and the place has it's very own special charm. I'm sorry to hear it's closed too!
Thank you so much for bringing back wonderful memories!!! :d
Great lo! I especially like the brick wall with the old newpaper clippings slapped on, and I like the key embellishments, and I like the aged "wanted" strip, and ... I guess I like everything!
That is soooo nice! I love it! The font you used for your journaling looks like it is right out of a newspaper! These are the lo's I look at and just sigh wishing I could create something so beautiful. Looks like something out of a book! Nice work.
Paper (Rusty Pickle) Ephemera (Ebay and some real vintage documents) Wood grille embellishment (Northeastern Scale Models) Skeleton key (With Charm) Heart clip (Memories) Cork paper (Magic Scraps) Labelmaker (Dymo) Font (Durango - Internet) Metallic Rub-Ons (Craf-T) Ink (Stazon) Bark Wire (7Gypsies) Alphabet Stamps (PSX) Small Keys (Jolee's)
Turned the photo to a sepia color. Actually burned the edges with a lighter. Folded the label tape back and forth to give a worn, creased look. Rubbed some black metallic rub-on onto the crumpled ephemera.
JOURNALING: "This is one of those memories that I’ve kept with me through the years. I was about 8 years old and Mom and I just got up one morning and headed out on the road with no destination. I EVENTUALLY saw a sign for “Ghost Town In The Sky” and asked if we could go . . . and we did. I loved it then and looking back, I love it even more today. We rode a huge ski-lift to the top of the mountain in Maggie Valley, NC where the “ghost town” was. There were buildings created to resemble an old ghost town, complete with cowboys, Indians, miners and can-can dancers. They even had staged gun fights in the street between the buildings. There were rides, old-fashioned photos and much more. Mom was a great sport and had this photo taken of us “in jail” and I’ve kept it with me ever since. Even though the ghost town was a smaller “amusement park” and couldn’t stand up to places like Kings Dominion or Great Adventure, I still loved it and as I got older, I knew I wanted to take my own daughters there. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing (2/04), Ghost Town In The Sky is closed this season and from all accounts, 40 years after its opening date, is now up for sale. I’m heartbroken that I possibly may not get to take my girls to see this amazing and incredible fun-park. I truly wanted them to experience the ride to the top of the mountain and looking out over the small town of Maggie Valley 2,000 feet below. I wanted to be able to have a photo like this taken with them like I did with my Mom. I guess all I can hope for is that someone will purchase the park and allow it to be what it was before . . . somewhere that you can truly let your imagination run wild, spend a fun time with your family and have memories to cherish just like this one.
