3-9-11...My "your best guess" photo was a close-up of this object...it's a cuttlebone, a chalk-like, calcium-rich dietary supplement used for small caged animals like birds, chinchillas and some reptiles. My parakeets love it and nibble on it until there is hardly anything left. Now, if, you're wondering, "Where it comes from?", "here's the rest of the story". A cuttlebone is a hard, brittle, calcified, internal shell of a Cuttlefish, which is not really a fish but a mollusk. The cuttlebone is filled with gasses that helps control the Cuttlefish's buoyancy in the water. [P3092820]
