Journaling: The year began with Don making a trip to NC in January to work on our mountain lot. When we drilled down 800 feet and still didn’t hit water, he and the “good ol’ boys” decided this was a job for dynamite. “You mean we get to blow up something?” One explosion and $8000 later, we had a well. In February, Karen and I flew to snowy Rochester for a baby shower in her honor, and she got wanded on the way back!
March was a month of joys and sorrows in our family. On March 1, Karen’s friends had a shower for her at our house. It was a bonanza of mommies-to-be with Julie, Nicole, and Sally in attendance, and the babies were born in quick succession: Maddie on March 14, Katie on April 1, Blake on April 6, and Maeson on May 25. After a long battle with COPD, Don’s dad died on March 5 at the age of 84. After the funeral, everyone came to our house for dinner provided by our Sunday School class, and it was a time to remember Mr. Hoenstine. Marc turned 30 on March 8, and Karen planned a big surprise party for him. We went to dinner at Hue, and he had no idea what was in store when we returned to their house. He even got the Coney Cake from Carvel that he requested.
