When I was a little girl, my mom would always take me down to the center of our little town to skate. I just LOVED to skate and I remember it being such a special time with my mom. We would love to watch ice skating on television as well. Dorothy Hamill was my mom’s favorite. She had the cutest little bob haircut and my mom always wanted me to get my haircut like hers.

Fast-forward a number of years. In 2008, the American Girl doll of the year was Mia. Mia’s story was that she was an ice skater pursuing her passion. GMa got you the doll that year because it would only be available during 2008 even though you were too young for it. She gave you the doll a couple of years later and I think that your Mia doll had a lot to do with you desire to skate. I hadn’t skated since I was a child and we had never taken you to the rink. You told me that you wanted to be an ice skater and you started taking lessons last fall. You were very timid at first but it has been amazing to see how you have improved. You ABSOLUTELY LOVE to be on the ice. You wanted to be in the ice show and we are looking forward to your performance in a couple of weeks.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much joy it brings me to see you in your little Dorothy Hamill haircut enjoying yourself on the ice, working hard, and gaining confidence with each practice. Whatever you do in life Sweets, I hope you always do it with passion. I am so very proud of you and I know that your grandma Eileen has a twinkle in her eye as well as she watches you skate from heaven.
