I just read your story on Austin, & was so impressed. Your faith & hard work to let this your man be the best he can be is so inspiring. Your L/O is not only interesting, but beautiful. Keep up the good work. ;)
Your LO is very special. Beautifully done with the addition of the poem. My son had severe ADHD and dyslexia takes a lot of hard work and love to raise a special child. God bless you and continue guiding you in all you do working with your son Austin. My prayers are with you.
What a beautiful LO, and even more special is the love and caring that your LO embodies. You are a special Mom, and blessed to have such a handsome and loved son. May God continue to bless.
I made this featuring my second son, Austin, who battles Autism, ADHD, dyslexia and dysgraphia. He didn't speak until he was 4, he just screamed or laughed. Now 17, with years of OT, PT, ST, special services and our sweat and tears, he is in a regular tech school in an automotive program. I know many people there see him as a C to D student with horrific writing skills and wish he would "speak up" when he needs help-but we know he is working his own miracle every day. I used the Timeless locks and keys to symbolize how I knew the real Austin was "in there" if I just kept trying long and hard enough to find the right key. The poem is by Emily Perl Kingsley. I didn't use the entire poem for space reasons. It reads: "When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting. After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland.""Holland?!?" you say. "What do you mean Holland? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy." But there's been achange in the flight plan. They've landed in Hollandand there you must stay. So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met. It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around....and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills....and Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts. ... if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ... about Holland." -abridged from Emily Perl Kingsley
