Traci, who is part of my circle journal group, challenged us to creat a layout about our favourite historical person and then journal about why we liked them - what a challenge! I eventually settled for Florence Nightingale, because I have been a nurse for over 30 years, and clearly her influence over the profession of nursing has been extraordinary! What I didnt know - until doing this lo - was that she had raised the funding to support a hospital less than 10 miles from my front door!, and also that she was responsible for mentoring Linda Richards, an American who then travelled back to the US and was a pioneer for nursing both in the US and Japan. This is me when I first became a Sister at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London - in the 1980s! Gaining ones lace cap and cuffs was a source of enormous pride in those days!
