Okay, well, I'm finally getting around to scrapping my 40th birthday.

The pp is gorgeous -- it's from Scrapperdashery in the UK -- I bought every pattern in this line from an online store in California when I finally found someone in the US who sells it because I desperately wanted the Midsummer Night's Dream version when my daughter was in the play. It is printed with the words to the poem "To a Mouse" by Robert Burns (1785). I printed the last stanza on vellum in the font Calligraph421 BT:
Still thou are blest, compared wi' me!
The present only toucheth thee:
But och! I backward cast my e'e,
On prospects drear!
An' forward, tho' I canna see,
I guess an' fear!

A little sad, but that's how I felt about turning 40.

The journaling is written around the shape: I spent my actual birthday with Darla at the Hilton Milwaukee CC. We ate at Mo's, walked the city in a gale, and drank for hours at Miller Time Pub, laughing, reminiscing, and drunk dialing. But the reality is that turning 40 was really, really hard for me. I dreaded it before, and I cried about it after. I'm thankful that I'm always mistaken for much younger, but I still hear that number in my head...40, 40, 40.

I cut the 40 out of cardboard and Glimmer Misted the heck out of it -- there are 6 different mists on there. The large flower is cut with the Tattered Florals die out of the pp. The smaller punched flowers are also out of the pp. They are all inked and water distressed. The other flowers are all Prima -- some were already blue, the others were plain that I misted with Patina Glimmer Mist. All the flowers are finished off with Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Mist. The two that were already finished flowers had ugly centers, so I covered them with Mermaid Glitz Stickles. The flowers I put together have either metallic silver or purple brads or Opal brads, which is my birthstone. There are a few metal drops mixed in with the flowers, and I put tiny gems on a few of the petals like dew drops. The photo was taken right before my birthday, and since I wasn't smiling for some reason, it seemed apropos for this LO.

This is for the May No Challenge Challenge.
