Hubby, Ron - feeding calf on the farm where we lived 40 years ago -- journaling:
When we lived on the farm, we
had very little money. We saved
to buy some calves from a
feedlot. Dad (Ron, Grandpa)
brought them home in an old old
car we had -- five calves & Dad.
THEN the calves began dying on
about day three. It was awful and
Dad found out too late they’d not
been given that first milk they are
supposed to receive from the mother.
HAD we known that, he could have
bought a replacement powder
milk but we found out only
after the fact. Here he is trying to
nourish the last one back to health
but it didn’t work. Reading this,
it probably sounds silly now, but
back then it was devastating. We’d
planned to raise them and fill the
freezer with meat (of course with
me for the mom, Dad probably
would have had to keep them
for pets!). 1973
