Give a Cheer
There's a wonderful challenge going on over at Swirlydoo's: Heroes and Villains, in which we are to scrap our subjects in the theme of our favorites.
As anyone who follows the Swirly forums may know, my declared hero is Captain Jack Sparrow. This photo of my DGD taken at a birthday party a few weeks ago is so well suited for this theme.
Captain Jack favors browns and reds for his apparel; I have included these colors, as well as the blue of the seas that he travels. I have covered the frames in gold to represent the treasure that he is constantly seeking…
Blue Eye the Pirate shares many of the attributes of Captain Jack:
Adventuresome: She's a two-year-old. Of course, she has a sense of adventure.
Stubborn: See above.
Charming: Oh, my goodness, take it from her Grandma; she IS so, so, so charming!!!!
Captain Jack's home is the sea, and so is Blue Eye's. Here she is riding o'er the waves in her pirate ship, complete with the Jolly Roger and a treasure map, with X marking the spot.
Speaking of that photo, it was enhanced in PSE9 with Florabella actions. I can finally use them (yayyyy), thanks to LisaN and the wonderful tutorial that she gave me at Camp. (Thanks so much again and again, Lisa!!!!)
All of the pp and cs came with the June Looking Glass kit from Swirlydoos. The Glimmer Glass frame holding the Jolly Rodger is from the Technique kit that Krissy sent us in May. The frame which, along with the smaller one has been coated with Distress Stain, Paint Dabber and a ton of Crackle Accents is from Dusty Attic, purchased through Swirlydoos. I used MoonShadow mists in (so aptly named) Buccaneer Bay Blue and Bucket o' Blood Red from Lindy's Stamp Gang (also available at Sdoo's) to color the waves and to add a little pop to the background.
The waves were cut with my Cricut, using the Plantain Schoolbook cartridge and then coated with (literally) an entire bottle of Stickles.
The map and the Jolly Roger were downloaded from the internet and printed on cream cs, then crumpled and distressed. The title and attributes were printed with MSWord on the same cs and also crumpled and distressed.
I purchased that gorgeous vine that you see from Kay's Kreative Korner on Etsy some time ago. I'm so glad that I have been hoarding it, because it's perfect for this page.
And the pirate ship… A few weeks ago, my Swirly Sister Jen (aka Jrabs) (aaka Jenabler) was braving the wilds of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado to search for her beloved Escape Kitty, when she stumbled on a church sale. (A church sale in the wild? (Hey, we're crafters; we can find the most amazing things in the most amazing places.) But I digress. She stumbled on a church sale and unable to pass up a bargain, came back to the cabin sans EK, but with a remarkable haul that included a woven basket. She used bits of this to embellish her own Superhero entry , then she generously offered parts to the rest of us. Not being one to pass up a bargain myself, I immediately said “yes” without knowing what I was going to do with it. (Hey, I'm a Swirly Savage; that's what we do.) So here I am with the perfect ship and I'm afraid that all I gave her in return was garbage.
