Every 4th, Allen has a Celebrate USA festival. We never go to the day long celebration
because it’s just too hot, but we do try to find a place in town to park the car and
watch the firewworks. This year we found a great spot in the parking lot of a local
church, and sat to wait out the heat and the last of the daylight. I got a shot of the
boys in the car as we considered sitting inside to watch the fireworks. But when the
lights went out at the park, we knew the fireworks were about to start so hopped out
and scoped a spot behind the outbuildings, with a perfect view. We were serenaded by a
bat not too happy we’d encroached on his hunting ground, and entertained by a rabbit
disturbed by the presence of humans in his area. The fireworks were fun, as we whistled
John Phillip Sousa along with them and wished America a happy birthday. Of course, I
have no shots of the fireworks, because, once again, my batteries had lost their charge,
mid-event. Story of my life. I REALLY need a backup set.
